"Lorsque voilà quelques années dans les studios de Radio J, Bernard Bitan m’a parlé de son projet théâtral, j’ai d’abord cru qu’il cherchait un sponsor. Très vite au fil de son discours, j’ai saisi la sincérité de son enthousiasme pour mettre en scène l’histoire du peuple juif. Il s'adressait à moi en tant que témoin. Je fus très ému par la manière dont il avait perçu mon livre-témoignage : "Les enfants de Slawkow" et son désir de mettre en scène un passage de mon récit. Aussi, c'est avec un grand honneur et un sentiment d'espérance que je parraine son œuvre. Ce qui fait la force du peuple juif, c'est qu'au delà de nos origines Sépharades ou Ashkénazes, nous portons ensemble le poids de la richesse de notre histoire. A tous mes camarades restés là-bas, je leur dis:" Reposez en paix"; j'ai chanté la Hatikva le jour de la libération du camp et à l'aube d'un nouveau millénaire, au crépuscule de ma vie, j'ai rencontré des hommes et des femmes qui, comme Bernard BITAN ont repris le flambeau de l'avenir immuable de notre peuple."

"When Bernard Bitan told me about his theatrical project a few years ago in the Radio J studios, at first I thought he was looking for a sponsor. Very quickly during his speech, I understood the sincerity of his enthusiasm to stage the history of the Jewish people. He was speaking to me as a witness. I was very moved by the way he had perceived my book-testimony: "The Children of Slawkow" and his desire to stage a passage of my story. It is with great honour and a sense of hope that I sponsor his work. What is the strength of the Jewish people is that, beyond our Sephardic or Ashkenazic origins, we bear together the burden of the richness of our history. To all my comrades who remained there, I said to them: "Rest in peace"; I sang the Hatikva on the day of the liberation of the camp and at the dawn of a new millennium, at the twilight of my life, I met men and women who, as Bernard BITAN have taken up the torch of the immutable future of our people."

"כשברנרד ביטן סיפר לי על הפרויקט התיאטרלי שלו לפני כמה שנים באולפני רדיו ג'יי, בהתחלה חשבתי שהוא מחפש ספונסר. מהר מאוד במהלך נאומו הבנתי את כנות התלהבותו לביים את ההיסטוריה של העם היהודי. הוא דיבר אלי כעד. התרגשתי מאוד מהדרך שבה הוא ראה את עדות הספר שלי: "בני סלוקוב" ורצונו לביים קטע מסיפורי. עם הרבה כבוד ותקווה אני נותן חסות לעבודתו. כוחו של העם היהודי הוא שמעבר למוצאנו הספרדי או האשכנזי, אנו נושאים יחד את נטל העושר של ההיסטוריה שלנו. לכל חבריי שנשארו שם, אמרתי להם: "נוחו על משכבכם בשלום". שרתי את התקווה ביום שחרור המחנה ובשחר המילניום החדש, בדמדומי חיי, פגשתי גברים ונשים, שכברנרד ביטן לקח את הלפיד של העתיד הבלתי משתנה של עמנו.
